Overview

Southern Railway (SR), through the Office of the Chief Workshop Manager, Carriage & Wagon Works, Perambur, has released Notification No. 01/2026 for the engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This is a training engagement and not a guarantee of permanent employment.

Vacancy Details

Total Vacancies: 4,471

• Fresher Category: 163 posts (Fitter, Welder, Painter, MLT)
• Ex-ITI Category: 4,308 posts (Various trades across multiple divisions/workshops)

Eligibility Criteria

Geographical Jurisdiction: Candidates must reside in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands, SPSR Nellore & Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), or Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka).

Educational Qualification:

• Fresher (Fitter, Painter, Welder): 10th Class with minimum 50% aggregate.
• Fresher (MLT): 12th Class (PCB) with minimum 50% aggregate.
• Ex-ITI: 10th Class (min 50%) + ITI certificate in relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT.
• Note: 50% minimum mark requirement is relaxed for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Age Limit (As of 28-08-2026)

• Minimum Age: 15 Years
• Maximum Age: 22 Years (General) / 24 Years (MLT)
• Age Relaxation: OBC (3 years), SC/ST (5 years), PwBD (10 years).

Stipend & Application Fee

• Stipend: ₹8,200 (10th Std) to ₹9,600 (12th Std/ITI) per month. Incremental increases apply in the 2nd and 3rd years.
• Application Fee: ₹100 (Non-refundable). Exempt for SC/ST/PwBD/Women.

Selection Process

Selection is based on a Merit List prepared by converting Matriculation and ITI marks into a 200-point scale.
